What’s More Important When Shopping for Insurance?
When shopping for insurance, it’s important to strike a balance between price and protection. After all, you don’t want to overpay for coverage you don’t need, but you also don’t want to skimp on protection and leave yourself financially vulnerable in the event of a loss.
We get this question a lot from our clients and wanted to give you straight answers. That’s where an experienced insurance agent can help. A good agent can help you assess your risks and needs, and find the right policy to protect you at a price you can afford. In this blog post, we’ll share some must-read advice from an insurance agent on how to avoid this common mistake and get the best insurance coverage for your needs.
If you could give one tip to help people when shopping for insurance, what would that be?
You should always have the agent start by preparing an apples-to-apples quote based on the coverages and limits as listed in your current policy. This establishes an accurate basis to determine which carrier is presenting you with the best value.
What is the most common mistake you see people make when shopping for insurance?
Using price as the primary criteria for selection of an insurance policy is a frequent and common error that could cost thousands more if something happens. Question is, are you buying insurance to protect your family, property and assets or because you have to?
“Are you receiving equivalent protection at a lower price or just less protection?“
What is your favorite type of insurance to work on? What is your specialty?
Regardless of the type of insurance, all policies follow the principal of “rate for risk”. My specialty is finding solutions for risks that are either difficult or unusual. The challenges these risks present keep me sharp in all areas of insurance.
What is the most common misconception people have about insurance that you’d like to set the record straight on?
“There is no such thing as “full coverage”. Never has been, never will be. Remember, insurance is a contract which defines and limits the who’s, what’s, when’s, where’s and how’s of coverage. If an agent uses the words “full coverage” – it’s time to find yourself a professional agent who knows better.”
