John Gray is a branch managing partner of the Basin Pacific Tacoma, Washington office. He has worked in insurance since he graduated college in 1989, and has been with Basin Pacific since 2009. John says that what he loves about working for Basin Pacific is that it gives him the opportunity to offer people the peace of mind that comes from knowing they’re prepared for some of the worst “what-ifs” of life, freeing them up to do what they do best. What is the most common mistake you see people make when shopping for insurance?
“A common mistake that I see people make while shopping for insurance is not looking at the coverage, and instead, only focusing on the price and not the value.”
If you could give one tip to help people when shopping for insurance, what would that be?
“Buy insurance as though you will need it the next day.”
What is your favorite type of insurance to work on? What is your specialty?
I like commercial insurance best, especially buildings and habitational. However, I still enjoy reviewing larger personal lines accounts that include at least auto, home, and umbrella.
What is the most common misconception people have about insurance that you’d like to set the record straight on?
“A big misconception people have is that insurance is a waste of money; insurance is the one product people buy, but hope they will never use.”
What are your hobbies?
In his free time, John enjoys golf, boating and Husky football- especially if it involves spending time with his granddaughter.
