As an insurance agency, we want to help you keep your car running smoothly and safely all season long. That’s why we’ve put together this list of fall car maintenance tips to get your car ready for the cooler months ahead.
Taking care of these little tasks can make a big difference when the cold hits.
MAINTENANCE TIPS
- Get an oil change and tune-up. This is one of the most important things you can do to keep your car running well. Be sure to get your oil changed according to your manufacturer’s recommendations, and have a tune-up performed every 30,000 to 60,000 miles.
- Check your tires. Make sure your tires are properly inflated and have good tread depth. You should also have your tires rotated and balanced every 6,000 to 8,000 miles. Do you know the penny trick? Watch our video here.
- Inspect your brakes. Brakes are one of the most important safety features on your car, so it’s important to have them inspected regularly. If you hear any unusual noises or notice any changes in your braking performance, be sure to have your brakes checked by a qualified mechanic.
- Test your battery. Batteries tend to wear out more quickly in cold weather, so it’s a good idea to have your battery tested before the winter months hit. If your battery is more than three years old, you may want to consider replacing it.
- Top off your fluids. Make sure all of your car’s fluids are at the proper levels, including coolant, windshield washer fluid, and brake fluid.
- Keep your insurance policy up to date. Make sure your policy covers the type of car you drive and the amount of mileage you put on it. You may also want to consider adding additional coverage, such as roadside assistance or rental car reimbursement.
By following these tips, you can help keep your car running smoothly and safely all fall long. And, in the event that you do have an accident, having your car properly maintained can help reduce the severity of the damage and save you money on your insurance premiums.
