IMPORTANT: DAIRYLAND DOES NOT PROVIDE PERMISSIVE USE COVERAGE FOR DRIVERS AGE 25 AND UNDER
Most standard auto insurance policies include what is called “permissive use” coverage– meaning that if you permit someone to drive your vehicle, they are generally covered under your policy even if they are not listed as a driver.
Dairyland Insurance operates differently. As a non-standard carrier, Dairyland’s policy does NOT extend permissive use coverage to drivers who are 25 of age or younger.
What does this mean for you?
1. If a driver who is 25 or younger operates your vehicle– even with your full permission– they will have NO coverage under your Dairyland policy.
2. If an accident occurs while an unlisted driver age 25 or under is behind the wheel, Dairyland will deny the claim.
3. You, as the vehicle owner, could be held personally liable for all damages, injuries, and legal costs resulting from that accident.
4. The unlisted young drier would also be considered uninsured, which can result in serious legal and financial consequences for both of you.
Who is affected?
1. Your children or stepchildren living at home or away.
2. Other relatives living in your household.
3. Friends, neighbors, or coworkers who borrow your vehicle.
4. Any young person who uses your car occasionally or regularly.
If they are 25 or under and not listed on your policy, there is simply no coverage.
How to get them added
If anyone age 25 or younger has access to your vehicle or may drive it for any reason, they MUST be added to your policy as a listed driver before they ever get behind the wheel.

Adding a driver is a simple process and ensures that:
1. They are properly covered in the event of an accident.
2. Your policy remains valid, and claims will not be denied.
3. You are protected from personal liability.
Contact our office right away if…
1. You have a child, family member, or household member age 25 or under who drives your vehicle.
2. You are unsure whether all drivers in your household are properly listed on your policy.
3. Your situation has changed, and a young driver now has access to your vehicle.
Does this affect my current policy payments?
While this update clarifies driver listing requirements, your overall policy, coverage, and billing will continue as usual. There are no changes to your current plan beyond ensuring all eligible drivers are properly listed.
Moving forward, you may see reminders or requests to confirm household drivers as part of ongoing policy reviews. This helps maintain accurate coverage and supports a smooth experience in the event of a claim. If you have any questions, please reach out to your agent—we’re here to help.
